The Spartans Live RED Program was started during the 2015-2016 school year as a way to recognize positive behaviors in our students. Each week, elementary students can be nominated by school teachers and staff recognizing them for outstanding or exemplary character in three categories: Respect, Empathy, and/or Determination. The nominees are then recognized by the entire school each Friday.
During the beginning of the year, students learn about these three characteristics (Respect, Empathy, & Determination) by watching videos, classroom instruction, and poster contests. We define these three characteristics as follows:
Respect: Treating all people and their belongings with fairness and kindness as you would like to be treated
Empathy: The ability to share and understand someone else's feelings or point of view
Determination: A quality that makes you continue trying to do something that is difficult because the result will be worth it
In light of recent events it is still important to encourage our students to show how Respect, Empathy, and Determination is not only present when we are in school but also show examples of it happening all around the world.
People all around the world are showing healthcare workers and other essential workers respect and gratitude for all of the work that they do. Here is a video highlighting how the world has united in celebrating these brave people.
Our own Mrs. Bail created a video to allow teachers who were missing their students a way to reach out and it gives our students a chance to see their beloved teachers.
One way we can all be determined is by doing our part to stop the spread of the virus. One of the easiest and most effective ways we can do that is by washing our hands. Here is a video demonstrating the proper way to wash our hands.
