SIXTH GRADE LANGUAGE ARTS

MY PHILOSOPHY

My main educational philosophy is that all children can learn if they work hard, are willing to take risks, and believe that learning from failures is a huge part of our growth as human beings. I also believe that academics will be more successful if students possess five character traits: perseverance, grit, optimism, conscientiousness, and self-control. Recent research has shown that these five traits are a more accurate indicator for life-long success than any cognitive skill!  It is my goal to create an environment where ALL students can access their potential successes both academically and personally. Our classroom is structured, yet flexible. I believe all children can and will learn, but not all in the same way or at the same rate. AND THAT’S OK! I do my best to meet each student at their level and interest and help move them forward in their life journey.

WHO IS MRS. KASLER?

I am always eager to begin a new year with new students! One of the first assignments at the beginning of the year is usually a “Get-to-know-you” activity. Well, I’d like to take this opportunity to allow you to “get to know me” and a little bit about our classroom.
I have lived in Athens County all my life. I live with my husband on a farm near Amesville. We have two grown children. Brent lives on the family farm with his beautiful wife, Ashley and 6-month-old daughter, Karlee Ann. Our daughter, Kathy and her husband, Matt, are in the process of building a house on the farm. They gave us our first grandchild, Halle Kathleen, in May 2015, and are expecting our THIRD granddaughter this January! So now I add “Nana” to my list of hobbies of cooking, gardening, remodeling, volunteering and helping Rich with the farm.
I have been teaching for almost 20 years; all of them here at Alexander!  It seems like just yesterday I decided to go to Ohio University to pursue my B.S. in Elementary Education and later my master’s degree.  The first part of my career I taught 6th grade, then moved to 7th grade for a few years, and now find myself back in 6th grade! I had forgotten how much I enjoy this age group!
