COLLEGE AND SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

 

  OHIO SCHOLARS DAY

 

     Learn more about Ohio University.  The day includes a tour of campus and an overview of      

     academic programs and scholarship opportunities at Ohio University.  It is open to selected 

     high academic caliber students.

      Get a jump on college, fill a necessary requirement, or just try something different!

      West  Virginia's Marshall University offers online college courses with college credit to 

      students while they are still in high school.  Visit their website to learn more.

SCIENCE & BUSINESS COMPETITIONS

 

            FIRST Robotics

FIRST was founded in 1989 by Dand Damen, inventor of the Segway Human Trasporter.  FIRST operates the FIRST Robotics Competition in which teams of high school students, sponsored and assisted by local companies and volunteers, design, assemble, and test a robot capable of performing a specified task in copetition with other teams.

            Let’s Get Real

An academic competition and an opportunity for teams of students to gain experience working on real business challenges.  Corporate sponsors supply real challenges for which teams submit solutions in business format. Ideal for students who are considering a career in business.

            Please be advised, if you are considering participating in one of the highly competitive competitions below, it is highly recommended that you consider pursuing a mentorship with a professional working in a science related field at least a year in advance.  Students participating in these competitions generally have experience conducting research prior to entering these prestigious competitions.

America’s oldest and most highly regarded pre-college science contest. Open to high school seniors.

            Sanofi-Aventis International BioGENEius Challenge

An annual competition for high school students that recognizes outstanding research in biotechnology.  Each year, regional winners from the U.S. and Canada are invited to compete in the international competition, held in conjunction with the BIO Annual International Convention, and present their projects to a panel of judges comprised of the leading scientists and educators in the biotechnology field. Winners receive cash awards and display their projects for convention participants.

This competition recognizes remarkable talent early on, fostering individual growth for high school students who are willing to challenge themselves through science research.
