Alexander Local Schools
Gifted Services
2007-2008
State mandate requires identification of all gifted students. There is no rule, however, regarding service of gifted students. Numbers of identified students and student academic achievement limit the number of students who can be served; therefore, the criteria described below are used to determine which students will be served in our gifted program.
GRADES 1 AND 2 READING ENRICHMENT
All students who are identified as gifted in reading and show no
areas of weakness in the Reading First assessments will participate.
GRADE 3 LANGUAGE ARTS and GRADE 4/5 LANGUAGE ARTS
All students who are gifted in reading are put into a pool. Points, on a
five point scale, are recorded in the categories below based on data
gathered from classroom and permanent records. The top students
are placed in the Language Arts class.
· End of year reading average (06-07)
· End of year language/writing average (06-07)
· Reading Achievement test score (spring 07)
· Terra Nova reading test score (spring 07)
· Cognitive score

GRADE 4-8 EXTEND

participating in the Language Arts class described above may sign up
for EXTEND class(es).

· Student will maintain at least an 80% in the class(es) they are missing when attending EXTEND class(es).
