Summer Assignment for the 2008-2009 school year
Honors English 11
Summer Assignment
2007-2008 School Year
Welcome to Honors Junior English! I look forward to getting to know you as we explore American Literature. Your summer reading assignment includes the two novels and a writing assignment. The novels can be found at any bookstore or from amazon.com. This assignment will also be posted on my class page on the Alexander Schools Website.
Reading Assignment
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger
* For both novels, use a post it note to mark five quotes that illustrate the main theme of the novel (you may write the 5 quotes on paper with a page number instead of post it notes).
Writing Assignment
Write a letter of introduction that shows me the real you. Do not be modest or shy. Please type your letter. I suggest that you write this letter over several days or weeks as it will be lengthy and involved. I have listed below the categories you must cover, but you can include others
- family
- priorities
- interests and hobbies
- personal values
- strengths and weaknesses
- things of which you are proud
- concerns you have for yourself and the world
- things/people/experiences which have influenced you
- hopes and plans for the future
- how you feel about reading
- what you hope to gain from Honors English
- Anything else you want me to know
These assignments are due the first day of school and you can expect a test over the novels in the first week or two of school. Failure to complete all of your summer reading/writing assignments may result in your removal from the honors class. If you have questions over the summer, feel free to contact me at achimo@alexanderschools.org or chimo20@yahoo.com; additionally, my home number is in the phone book.
Have A Great Summer! J
