The Alexander School Board approved the creation of a Girl's Varsity Soccer Program on January 8th, 2008. Thanks to everyone who supports us! You are helping to provide countless girls with the opportunity to play soccer!

This website has been created for players, parents and community members to keep up with what's going on in girl's soccer.

Pre-Season Information

In anticipation of the beginning of a girl's soccer program starting in the fall of 2008, we are inviting all girls entering or in high school (9-12) who are thinking about joining the team to participate in as many pre-season activities as possible. We realize that many girls play other sports or have part-time jobs, which is important as well. These pre-season activities are not mandatory (the state doesn't allow anything to be mandatory until practice officially begins Aug. 4th), however we highly encourage those that can attend to do so as it will better prepare them and the team for the season ahead. The state is generously allowing us to start practice before Aug. 4th, so we need to take advantage of it!

Practice: SUNDAYS and WEDNESDAYS from 6:30-8:00 pm! This will be at the practice fields. (See calendar below for other dates!)

Soccer Camp: Starting July 14th through July 26th from 6:00-8:00pm (with the weekends off).

Conditioning: July 27th through August 2nd from 6:30-8:00pm.

Other Information: Middle School Soccer

GAMES: 15 out of 16 games are scheduled! One more game and we'll have a full season schedule!

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCCER:

Great news! There will be 2 middle school teams next year!

Question: IS AN ALL GIRLS MIDDLE SCHOOL TEAM GOING TO BE CREATED? Answer: All middle school teams are co-ed (none are separated by gender), so there wouldn't be any teams to play. A lot of schools would have to create new girls teams so they could play each other. Many small schools have enough problems getting the numbers they need to create co-ed teams, so until a massive amount of students show up to play for all the schools, and the schools can fund more teams, middle school soccer will remain co-ed. We highly encourage spring travel teams to be created though!

Directions to Away Games

A booklet will be given to you at the beginning of the season with all of the directions for the away games so you can keep it in your car. They will also be posted here.

Fundraising

Reverse Raffle Dinner: The Alexander Soccer teams joined efforts to hold a Reverse Raffle on May 10th. The dinner was delicious, the company was fun, and the prizes were fantastic!

Proceeds benefit the High School Boys' Varsity team, the High School's NEW Girls' Varsity team, and the Middle School teams. We want to thank you for helping all of us! We couldn't have done it without you!

Yard Sale: Thank you for helping with the yard sale, especially the families of Heather, Sierra & Shelby! Coach Crow did an excellent job organizing and setting this up; we appreciate his efforts to include us in this! We'll be having a yard sale again next year, so start saving your things!

Other Ideas: car washes, Kroger Care Cards, OU split the pot, yard sales, bakes sales, raffles, etc.

Coaches Corner

Head Coach Julie Thomas teaches first grade at Alexander Elementary, played on the first girl's varsity soccer team at Athens High School, played on the OU Women's Club Team, coached soccer camps, coached the Alexander Girl's Traveling soccer team, and coached the Athens Middle School co-ed teams.

Assistant Coach Melanie Yoder is obtaining her Master's degree from Ohio University, played for Bexley High School and were runners up in the state final, played for Ohio Wesleyan and won the National Championship, coached soccer camps, coached the Alexander Girl's Traveling team, and coached Alexander's Middle School co-ed team.

Both coaches are excited and honored to be a part of this historic program!
