Peanut Butter and Jelly Summer Program
We will be expanding this long standing program to the Alexander district this year. This program allows families in need to show up at the designated distribution point and get one jar of peanut butter and jelly per child with bread to supplement their children's nutrition needs during the summer months. More information will become available for interested families toward the end of the school year. Those who are interested in donation to this program can contact the School Outreach worker at the elementary school or at Athens County Children Services 592-3061.
Clothing and Hygiene Bank
We have started collecting items through donation that will be used to assist children and families with basic needs issues as quickly as possible. These products also go toward informational sessions and demonstration with students on keeping good hygiene. If interested in donation please contact the School Outreach worker at the elementary school.
Children of the district who are in need of school supplies or other essentials will find assistance through this program. Athens County Children Services has provided supplies for grade levels up to sixth and supported teachers in the classroom with supplies such as tissues, markers and other basics.
Blessings in a Backpack
This program is a nationwide initiative to provide children in need with easy to prepare, ready to eat foods over the weekend throughout the school year. Our local coordinator Kara Hanning has worked with School Outreach and other staff to provide this service to 100 children in the elementary school. If you would like to know more about this program or would like to donate to it please contact me at the elementary school office so arrangements can be made.
Alexander PTO Shoes Program
This new program has been arranged with the support of Alexander PTO. A yearly shoe drive allows the district to provide new shoes to those children who are in need. Our most recent drive collected 100 pairs and allowed students to focus on their studies not their feet. If you would like to know more about this program or would like to donate to it please contact your Alexander PTO or Outreach worker through the elementary office.
